The following qualifications from the Rural Production Training Package (RTE03) are available for study through the Crops & Livestock Department at the Primary Industries Centre

Certificate IV in Wool Classing (RTE40303)
Certificate II in Shearing (RTE20403)
Certificate II in Crutching (RTE20503)

Certificate IV in Wool Classing (RTE40303)

This course is for people who wish to be accredited as a professional wool classer. This course is available for people to enrol in as part of a rural traineeship.

There are a group of core units covering preparation and classing of wool during shearing, managing the shearing operation to ensure a quality product, and marketing processes and options for the classed clip.

Classes are held during evenings at the Primary Industries Centre (Nth Wagga), Harden, and Walla Walla.

If you are already employed in this sector, you may be able to obtain recognition for your current skills and knowledge.

Certificate II in Shearing (RTE20403)

This course is for people who wish to be employed as a professional shearer. This course is available for people to enrol in as part of a rural traineeship.

The course covers preparing for and undertaking the shearing operation for approximately 80 sheep per day, and OH&S and workteam communication.

Training is conducted over a block period of 5 full working days (7.30am till 5.30pm) as part of normal shearing shed operation.

If you are already employed in this sector, you may be able to obtain recognition for your current skills and knowledge.

Certificate II in Crutching (RTE20503)

This course is for people who wish to be employed as a professional shearer. This course is available for people to enrol in as part of a rural traineeship.

The course covers preparing for and undertaking the shearing operation for approximately 40 sheep per day, shedhand skills, and OH&S and workteam communication.

Training is conducted over a block period of 10 full working days (7.30am till 5.30pm) as part of normal shearing shed operation.

If you are already employed in this sector, you may be able to obtain recognition for your current skills and knowledge.
