SHAPE YOUR FUTURE

"I really enjoyed the hands on work experience and the support from the staff. Most people I graduated with have also found work in the industry."

Primary Industries and Natural Resources

Primary Industries and Natural Resource Management education and training are delivered from fourteen campuses throughout the Riverina Institute. A variety of delivery methods are used including workplace based, on campus part time and full time, flexible and online delivery.

Primary Industries Centre

The Primary Industries Centre (PIC) at North Wagga Wagga utilises 250 hectares to teach agriculture and students study up to Advanced Diploma level in areas as diverse as animal studies, horticulture, sheep and wool, conservation land management and racing and horse studies. Students have access to the latest farm machinery, modern shearing and wool classing facilities, modern computerised glasshouses and computer and laboratory equipment.

National Environment Centre

The National Environment Centre (NEC) located at Thurgoona (Albury) is a unique educational facility set on a 182 hectare organic farm. The NEC is the Institute’s speciality centre providing programs in environmental science and sustainable agriculture and uses leading edge environmental management techniques and activities to provide high quality training to Advanced Diploma level in a number of areas like waste and water management, natural resource management, agriculture, bushland regeneration, outdoor recreation, permiculture, GIS and organic farming.

Many of these programs are also offered at other campus locations throughout the Institute.

Forest Industry Training Centre

The Australian forest industry has an annual production value of around $18 billion and creates approximately 83,000 jobs. Over 28,000 people are employed in the industry in NSW alone and it is therefore a key contributor to this state’s economic prosperity.
Riverina Institute supports the Forest Industry Training Centre at its Tumut Campus. An ideal location for this specialist centre, Tumut is surrounded by some of Australia's largest plantations, plus significant native forests and includes some of the most advanced timber processing and papermaking mills in the world.

The Centre provides training solutions to ensure maximum recognition, flexibility and portability for people working in, or wishing to work in, the forestry industry. Its philosophy is firmly based in the need to take practical training and assessment services out to the forest industry. The Institute relies on industry specialists and develops enterprise based training and assessment teams across the workforce to deliver training programs.
