What is Water Operations?

Water Operations ensures the safe and efficient use of our precious water resources.

TAFE NSW offers the Certificates II, III and IV in Water Operations. These courses are of interest to a range of roles in a wide range of industries with their own water operations.

Who should study Water Operations?

In order to complete these qualifications, the student must already be working in the water industry.

Courses are delivered flexibly by work-based distance education. We also offer face-to-face workplace delivery tailored to employer needs.

TAFE NSW offers the following qualifications in Water Operations:

  • Certificate IV Water Operations (Trade Waste) (NWP40107)
  • Certificate IV Water Operations (NWP40107)
  • Certificate II Water Operations (NWP20115)
  • Certificate III Water Operations (NWP30315)

Potential job roles for students and graduates include occupations linked to the following streams:

  • Treatment (Water and/or Wastewater) - water treatment and recycled water management such as Assistant Operator, Water Operator, Water Treatment Supervisor and Water Treatment Technologist
  • Networks - operating, constructing and maintaining water and/or wastewater networks such as Assistant Networks or Networks Operator, and Networks Supervisor
  • Source - catchment, weirs, locks, dams, rivers, reservoirs, bulk water and groundwater management such as Bore Fields, Bulkwater, Catchment, Dams or River Operators, Diversions Officer, Supervisor, Dam Safety Instrumentation Specialist, and Salinity Interception Officer
  • Irrigation - constructing, operating and maintaining irrigation delivery and drainage infrastructure, surface water systems, catchment and groundwater management, bulkwater storage, river operations, channels, water metering, regulators, pumps, scheduling delivery and water entitlements for a Field Operator
  • Trade Waste - compliance, licencing and regulations of liquid trade waste management for a Trade Waste Officer.
