Skills Recognition

Commonly asked questions

Who can apply for recognition?
You can. All students enrolled in a course in TAFE NSW can apply. If you are not enrolled in a course but want to apply for recognition to see if you could get it for a course you might like to do, we can do that too (a fee applies).

What will it cost me?
If you are a currently enrolled student in a TAFE NSW course the service is free of charge. If you are not currently enrolled then a commercial fee will apply.

How much recognition could I be eligible for?
It could be for one unit of competency through to the complete qualification – we’ll talk to you about what you might receive.

What are the outcomes of recognition?
You do not have to study the units of competence for which you have been granted credit through the recognition process, so you may be able to get the qualification sooner and for less cost.

What else do I need to know?
If you access income support, or hold a temporary visa, and are granted recognition it may mean that you will not study the same number of hours per week. This may affect the conditions of your payments or visa. To find out more contact the number below.

A qualification that has grades attached (such as Distinction or Credit) may be affected if the units of competence for which you have been granted credit effect the grading of the qualification – so you may end up with a different grade.

If you seek recognition for units in a qualification you were enrolled in more than one year ago you may be required to pay another enrolment fee.
