Recognition, otherwise known as RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning), acknowledges skills that you have gained from previous study, work and life experiences.
If the skills you have gained previously are recognised then you may not have to complete similar units and therefore may complete your studies sooner. Another benefit is that you might be able to study a higher qualification than you planned to, and you may even be able to apply for 100% recognition in your chosen qualification.
There are four simple steps you need to complete in order to apply for Recognition. They are:
Contact a staff member at TAFE NSW. It’s best to speak with a teacher in the area you are looking at studying, however, you can get great information from all our campus administration staff.
Just call 1300 823 374, send us an email (see below) or drop into your local TAFE and talk to one of our friendly staff.
Prepare your evidence. Evidence needs to relate to the competencies in the qualification you are studying.
Submit your Recognition application to the relevant teacher.
You’ll be notified of the results within three weeks of submitting your application.
