Australian Apprenticeships

At TAFE NSW we offer a wide range of programs in diverse career areas for both apprentices and trainees.

These include training for apprentices and new entrant trainees, as well as for existing worker trainees and part time trainees, school-based trainees and school-based apprentices.

Our experience as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) is recognised

We’re always looking to form partnerships with employers to plan how, when and where it's best for trainees and apprentices to undertake their training.

What does an Australian Apprenticeship involve?

  • Paid employment under an appropriate industrial arrangement (e.g. an award or enterprise agreement).
  • A training agreement that’s signed by both the employer and you (the apprentice or trainee) and that’s registered with the NSW Department of Education and Communities.
  • Structured on-the-job training. In most cases the training agreement will include structured off-the-job training too.
  • A training program organised by an RTO (such as TAFE NSW) that will meet the requirements of a declared apprenticeship or traineeship in NSW and will lead to a nationally recognised qualification.
